This place rocks. No pun. Laura + Sander both took extra time with me to discuss my piece, educate me on its materials, and recommended how I could best care for it. Their space is beautiful, they're locally owned, they're knowledgeable and kind. This was an excellent, uplifting experience beyond my expectation.
My fiancé purchased my engagement ring from Alchemy and I absolutely love it. He was able to bring in a design he had drawn up based off of what I described and the jewelers at Alchemy were able to bring the drawing to life. It came out perfectly! I get compliments all the time. We have now gone back to design a ring for my fiancé and Sanders (owner/jeweler) has been great throughout the entire process. He is very knowledgeable and fantastic to work with. Highly recommend!
Alchemy is the only place in Portland where I know experts are handcrafting jewelry. You can actually see their workshop from the showroom. They are the real deal.
So much of the jewelry at Alchemy is inspired by nature, which sets the perfect tone for the shop atmosphere and collection of jewelry as a whole. Anyone who appreciates fine art and expert craftsmanship will like this shop.
Alchemy is a gem in the pearl district, and you should visit their showroom whether shopping for jewelry or wanting to see something beautiful.
For an absolutely fun and magical jewelry experience go to Alchemy. David Iler is a master when it comes to creating art pieces. And he is very generous with letting his clientele try on the many different pieces he has on show. Not only does he create original pieces but he has many pieces from other artists on display. He is also exceptionally talented with re-creating jewels from pieces that are no longer loved in their present state. Whether you are looking for a special item that is $500, or $50,000 you will have a wonderful time in the "Art Gallery" that is Alchemy.
I purchased a heart pendant for my then girlfriend 30 years ago, and it was barely all I could afford. It was small but very beautiful and she loved it for over thirty years. I searched all over Portland to find a jeweler who could craft a reproduction on a grand scale worthily of my beautiful wife of thirty years.
Sander understood exactly what I wanted and was beyond helpful and very encouraging. He translated to David my expectations, who then crafted an exact replica on a magnificent scale.
Needless to say, my wife was overwhelmed. Thanks so much to Alchemy for making our 30th anniversary very special.
Stumbled upon Alchemy while my now husband and I were looking for my engagement ring. I was very happy with the selection. Sander and the other people working were amazing to work with. So helpful, not pushy, gave me a wide variety of rings to try on since I didn't have an exact ring I was looking for.
I found my ring that day and I absolutely love it. Even better was the main ring and one of the two bands were my size! I was able to take two of them home with me, and wait for the third to come which only took a week or two. Also ended up getting my husband's ring here as well.
I recommend Alchemy to anyone I know looking for rings. Their mix of more traditional with less traditional makes it a place for all to check out. Did I think I would be getting gold ring with two black bands that go around it? Definitely not. But as soon as I saw it, I wanted it, and I absolutely love it.
This place has some very unique one of a kind pieces. Each is a rare work of art. The store itself is amazing because there is a little nook where you can watch the artists work on Jewelry creations. They also always have fresh flower bouquets that smell and look amazing. They have flower photography that enhance the shopping experience. I have been here a couple times for first Thursday and they are always so gracious in showing me new pieces and giving me a glass of wine or some fresh fruit or cheese. I love the elegance and flair of this Jewelry store and their designers are top notch.
Do not pass this "gem" by. Alchemy is more like a museum where appreciative (and careful) eyes are encouraged to touch. More than that, the jeweler is approachable. I learned more about New York jewelry designers in 20 minutes within the beautiful walls of this corner shop, than my many years as a native New Yorker. There are affordable designs and some really special museum quality pieces that will put a gleam in your eye. Worth the detour!
Alchemy helped my husband and I find our perfect rings. He had a hand-me-down gold band, from his great great grandfather in Germany, that David was able to re-size and keep the inscription on the inside intact! The band that he made for me was a perfect compliment to my engagement ring...and he was able to make it using reclaimed metals and diamonds, which was important to me. Their shop and services are top notch. I would recommend stopping my Alchemy to anyone in the market for bridal-jewelry.
