Considering a Custom Jewelry Design Project?

At our jewelry store in Portland, Oregon, we are dedicated to helping you discover the perfect piece of jewelry or bringing your vision to life. Whether you're browsing our cases or considering a custom design, we offer a range of options, from special ordering different metals and gemstones to choosing a unique stone cut or gallery design. Often, we can craft an item that encompasses everything you have in mind. Many of our designers have also created one-of-a-kind pieces exclusively for Alchemy and our clients.

We encourage you to explore your preferences using our jewelry building resources HERE

If you need something truly unique, we can guide you through the custom design process. Keep in mind that full custom design requires time, communication, patience, and often a significant budget.

Common questions about the custom design process include: What does it entail? What is the price range? How long does it take? Is this possible? The answer is: It depends! Our Master Jeweler, who is highly sought after for his craftsmanship and expertise, oversees all work personally. We prefer to provide estimates only after discussing all the details, as each project is unique.

While we utilize CAD software in the initial stages, we often return to traditional methods. After creating a working rendering, we 3D print a wax mold, which is then used to cast the final piece. The remaining work takes place on the jeweler’s bench. We believe that designing with pencil and paper is the most intimate way to convey ideas, allowing us to get on the same page quickly. We also encourage you to complete your own artwork and compile a “lookbook” showcasing your desired jewelry styles.

Once the design is approved, we require full payment for any gemstones and 50%-75% of the project total before work begins. Changes cannot be made at this stage. All customized, customizable, and special orders are non-refundable, and the order cannot be canceled once the process begins.

We have many projects in process simultaneously, completing stages in batches to keep workflow as efficient as possible. We also have rigorous quality standards. This combination can equal lengthy lead times, so it is best to only enter into custom design when you have a liberal time frame and generous expectations for the overall artistic process.
