January Birthstone : Garnet

Derived from the Latin granatus, meaning "pomegranate," the Garnet's deep color saturation has fascinated us for centuries. Ancient Greeks, Pharaohs, Popes, and Russian royalty have all had a love affair with January's birthstone.

Comprised of a group of minerals, Garnets have been used since the Bronze Age for everything from decorative gemstones to signet stamps for Medieval clergy. Found all over the world, most of the globe's modern garnet supply is mined from the African continent.

Associated with alleviating negativity, depression and guilt, Garnets are also said to promote mental clarity, confidence, and peace of mind.
